The Solomon Islands Government has successfully concluded developing a roadmap to set up a Measuring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) System which is necessary and in line with the creation and implementation of the country's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
The NDC Hub through the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) assessed the Solomon Islands current greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, NDC, national mitigation actions and related climate change programs.
Key ministries and departments of the Solomon Islands were engaged in comprehensive consultations to help create a roadmap for developing the country's NDC MRV system.
The existing MRV systems for climate actions identified in the NDC were reviewed and this formed the basis of establishing the comprehensive MRV systems of these actions. In January 2020, tailor-made, in-country trainings on MRV systems were also delivered as part of capacity building for MRV.
This is also in line with one of the core outputs of the Pacific NDC Hub to enhance in-country capacities through trainings. The roadmap will help the Solomon Islands establish an MRV system and track its NDC implementation as countries prepare to submit their enhanced NDC targets to the UNFCCC Secretariat.
