The Regional Pacific NDC Hub has opened its next round of calls for countries to submit their country's NDC-related support, which will be implemented during the NDC Hub’s third project phase, which begins on July 1st, 2022.
The Pacific Island Leaders first envisioned the need for a dedicated regional facility to support the implementation of the nationally determined contributions (NDC) of Pacific Island Countries (PICs) at the inaugural Climate Action Pacific Partnership Conference in 2017. At the 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP 23), the Regional Pacific Nationally Determined Contribution Hub (NDC Hub) was formally launched – a dedicated regional facility, created and owned by the PICs, to provide catalytic support for NDC implementation in PICs and support processes of ambition ratcheting and transparency of climate action.
In taking a demand-driven approach, the NDC Hub receives Country Requests from its member PICs, outlining specific needs for support in the NDC process and implementation.
Eligibility
Country Requests must only be submitted through the nominated country focal point for the NDC Hub. A Country Request Guideline and form have been shared with all nominated focal points, which allows NDC Hub member countries to request customized, and country-specific technical support. Governments from the following NDC Hub member PICs may request support from the NDC Hub:
-
Cook Islands
-
Federated States of Micronesia
-
Fiji
-
Kiribati
-
Nauru
-
Niue
-
Palau
-
Papua New Guinea
-
Republic of the Marshall Islands
-
Samoa
The central goal of the NDC Hub is to realize the vision of a sustainable, low-carbon, and climate-resilient Pacific. The NDC Hub aims to support PICs in fulfilling their commitments under the Paris Agreement, considering their national circumstances. This includes supporting PICs in mobilizing support through internal and external partners, and the broader network of the NDC Hub. The NDC Hub aims to advance the following objectives:
-
Improve NDC planning, policy, strategy, and legislation in PICs.
-
Strengthen enabling environment for NDC implementation.
-
Accelerate NDC action and project/program implementation in PICs.
-
Enhance NDC measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV), and transparency of climate action.
