The objective of the Hub is to support PICTs in reviewing, enhancing and implementing their climate commitments. Supporting PICTs to achieve their climate targets will contribute to sustainable and resilient development and promote a transition to a low-carbon development pathway in the Pacific - Mr. Ulu Bismarck Crawley, Chief Executive Officer, Samoa Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment
The Pacific NDC Hub has completed its first Phase of implementation in March 2020. To plan further work for the second Phase of the NDC Hub, Pacific Leaders met in February 2020 over 3-days to lay the groundwork for this.
The NDC Hub steering committee, focal points and implementation partners participated in a week-long cooperation meeting and decided on effective collaboration and cooperation for NDC implementation across all 15 Pacific Island Countries and Territories.
During a closed country session, Focal Points and Steering committee members were given the space to discuss challenges and decide on the future steering structure for the NDC Hub. As a demand-driven approach, this session provided a platform for focal points to address steering mechanisms and decision making processes needed to enable countries to effectively drive the Hub through its second phase.
Countries agreed on a path forward in finalizing the current requests to the NDC Hub as well as the process for submitting future requests to the Hub. As a result of this meeting, the NDC Hub is well positioned to shape its future work supporting PICs ambitious climate efforts.
