In a significant milestone for climate action in the Pacific, the management of the Regional Pacific NDC Hub has officially been handed over from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to the Pacific Community (SPC). This transition marks a pivotal moment in our commitment to a climate-resilient Pacific and represents a new chapter in our ongoing journey towards sustainable development and climate resilience across the region.
Under GIZ’s leadership, the Regional Pacific NDC Hub has achieved outstanding progress in phase 3, setting a strong foundation for the future. Key achievements include:
Updating and Developing Investment Plans for Six NDCs
Conducting Four National Policy Coherence Review
Executing Eleven On-Ground Activities
Developing Seven MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) Plans
Building Capacity in Climate Change Communication
As we pass on the torch to SPC, we do so with great optimism and confidence that the NDC Hub will continue to drive forward with renewed energy and focus. SPC's extensive experience and regional expertise make it well positioned to lead the Hub into its next phase, where it will continue to support Pacific nations in achieving their climate ambitions. With this transition, we anticipate a continued push towards achieving sustainable and climate resilient outcomes for the Pacific Islands. SPC will build on the strong foundation laid by GIZ, ensuring that the NDC Hub remains a central force in advancing climate action across the region.
None of this would have been possible without the support of our partners, Pacific Community (SPC), Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the NDC Partnership. We are also grateful for the continued support from our donors, the European Union (EU), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).
