The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Ministry of Environment Climate Change Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) recently collaborated to deliver a workshop aimed at formulating a Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Investment Plan for the Solomon Islands. This plan will target renewable energy, land transport, and forestry sectors to address climate mitigation priorities outlined in the country’s updated NDC document.
Hosted by GGGI, the workshop engaged key stakeholders from government ministries, donor partners, and the private sector. MECDM Permanent Secretary, Dr. Melchior Mataki emphasized on the government’s commitment to climate action, citing various policy frameworks. He further elaborated that "The Ministry is taking a strategic view to ensure the NDC Investment Plan will be the first national planning document for climate change, which integrates the NDC goals and actions to achieve the targets.” GGGI Country Representative Mr. Sakiusa Tuisolia emphasized on the significance of the initiative, highlighting GGGI's role in supporting Small Island Developing States in achieving their development goals and Paris Agreement commitments.
The workshop results will help create a first draft of the NDC Investment Plan, set to be revealed in August. This initiative aligns with the Solomon Island Government’s request to develop the NDC Investment Plan through the Regional Pacific NDC Hub. Additionally, this project is funded by the European Union.
