Improving Data Collection for Monitoring, Reporting and Verification for NDC reporting
Country: Marshall Islands (Republic of)
Phase: 3
Status: Ongoing
Related Strategic Priority Outcomes: Enhanced NDC measurement, reporting & verification and transparency of climate action
Summary of Activity:
The initiative contributes to a sustainable and efficient transport transition in the Marshall Islands to achieve the country’s NDC commitments laid out under the 2050 Climate Strategy – Lightening the Way (Tile Til Eo). On a national level, “Building a sound infrastructure that provides energy, environmental, infrastructure and transportation security for all atolls” is topic 8 of the RMI National Strategic Plan 2015-2018 (NSP). Setting up commercial GHG emission monitoring systems (MRV) for RMI can assist in data monitoring and implementation of the sector
goals and assist in implementing RMI’s objectives of meeting the UNFCCC Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitments.
RMI has set itself the NDC target of achieving transport-wide reduction of total domestic transport GHG emissions 27% below 2010 levels by 2030 and transitioning RMI to a low carbon transport future as well as to reduce domestic maritime transport emissions to at least 40% of 2010 levels by 2030, and full decarbonization of the sector by 2050
