Swipe Up 4 Change

Dates: 12 Mar 2024 - 15 Mar 2024

Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) represent a specific niche within the broader landscape of climate change. NDCs encapsulate a nation’s goals, actions and initiatives addressing the various aspects such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing resilience and fostering sustainable development. As the Regional Hub for the Pacific, tasked with enhancing, implementing and reviewing NDCs across 14 Pacific Island Countries, there is a recognized need to increase awareness amongst youths on NDCs and their role in addressing climate change. Limited awareness amongst youths on NDCs has been identified as a major challenge.

Social Media platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok, as well as mobile phone usage, is expanding rapidly in the Pacific, indicating the growing significance of digital platforms for communication. The collaborative engagement, knowledge-sharing and experiences of social media influencers and climate advocates, create a powerful synergy to effectively communicate climate action and inspiring grassroot movements. With this approach, we aim to effectively amplify the importance of climate action and Pacific NDCs.

In addition, during the Pacific Resilience Meeting (PRM) in August 2023, youth participants requested for communication training on creating visibility on climate change. Climate change is a global challenge that requires the collective efforts of individuals, communities, and nations. Effective communication is a key tool to mobilize action and raise awareness, and social media platforms have proven to be powerful tools for reaching diverse audiences.
