The Hub harnesses regional knowledge and expertise to support Pacific Island Countries to transition towards a sustainable, low carbon and climate resilient future and the strategy launched today serves to reinforce the relevance of the NDC Hub over the coming decade and support the NDC Hub’s lasting impact
Australia has committed a further AUD$500,000 (around FJD 786,000) towards the second phase of the Regional Pacific NDC Hub.
Australia has been a proud and steady supporter of the Hub since 2018.
The funds will further help implement the Hub’s vision for sustainability, low-carbon growth, development and climate resilience.
Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes made the announcement during the Hub’s launch event of “Strategy 2030” – Pacific’s game plan for climate action through its NDCs for the next decade.
He said Australia’s ongoing support for the Regional Pacific NDC Hub was a further recognition of the importance of climate change to the Pacific, reflected in the Kainaki II Declaration on Urgent Climate Change Action Now.
“We have keenly followed the NDC Hub’s success in bringing together Pacific countries, regional organisations, and other partners to work together on NDC review, roadmaps and investment plans in its member countries,” he commended.
“This work is significant - the Hub harnesses regional knowledge and expertise to support Pacific Island Countries to transition towards a sustainable, low carbon and climate resilient future and the strategy launched today serves to reinforce the relevance of the NDC Hub over the coming decade and support the NDC Hub’s lasting impact.”
Feakes also acknowledged Fijian Prime Minister, Hon. Frank Bainimarama for his vision and drive to realise the Pacific Regional NDC Hub, stating it as a critical element of Pacific leadership on climate change in action.
“The NDC Hub is ‘made for the Pacific, by the Pacific’ and indeed the NDC hub has been conceived, developed and continues to be led by its Pacific Island members, to support the Pacific’s leadership and action on climate change under the Paris Agreement,” he said.
