Last month we welcomed Ron Simpson to the Regional Pacific NDC Hub. Ron is the Regional Pacific NDC Hub's Adaptation Advisor and brings over 12 years of Marine and Coastal Fisheries Science and Adaptation experience in the region. Ron is a staff with GIZ Pacific and is part of the Regional Pacific NDC Hub Implementation Unit based in Suva, Fiji. We sat down with Ron to ask him a few questions after working for over a week at the Hub.
Q: What do you enjoy about working at the Hub?
A: Climate Change is a real issue facing the Islands, and I feel the role of the Hub is quite important in providing necessary support and assistance, plus it’s great to be part of an awesome and energetic team with a wealth of experience and expertise. The NDC Hub helps countries adapt to the impacts of Climate Change and fulfil their mitigation and NDC targets; this makes it very relevant to national and regional efforts. I love the vibe, and working climate here at the hub. This is a very unique setup having four partner organizations in the same room together, which is quite special, a melting pot of experience and knowledge – a kind an engine room to support the Pacific Countries.
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself
A: My background is in Climate Change adaptation and Marine Biology. I have worked across Fiji and the region, across a few organizations providing support to local communities, governments and stakeholders on climate change adaptation efforts, natural resource conservation and sustainable management. I hope that my experience and skills will strengthen and compliment the efforts of the NDC Hub and other similar organizations towards a environmentally sustainable and Climate resilient future for Fiji and for the Pacific.
Ron in his spare time loves to pick up his old guitar, to pen and string up a few tunes.
