Samoa has embarked on a Agroforestry Program under the guidance of its Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in a move towards climate resilience. Supported by funding reallocation within its BMZ funded budget, this initiative signifies Samoa's proactive approach to fulfilling its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) goals.
Led by Ms. Vainalepa Toiata Uili and her team at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Samoa's Agroforestry Program prioritizes community engagement and empowerment. Through a collaborative effort with local stakeholders, including selected schools, the program aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices and agroforestry initiatives.
The reallocated funds, facilitates the procurement of necessary resources, organization of awareness campaigns, demonstration sessions, and the establishment of robust monitoring systems. By actively involving communities in the implementation process, Samoa is fostering a culture of ownership and resilience against the impacts of climate change.
This initiative underscores Samoa's commitment to sustainable development and its determination to lead by example in the Pacific region. As Samoa takes proactive steps towards climate resilience, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment continues to play a pivotal role in driving community-driven initiatives that will benefit present and future generations.
SPREP will be working closely on this request with the Samoa Focal Point, Ms. Vainalepa Toiata Uili and her Renewable Energy Team at the Samoa Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, highlighting the collaborative efforts between Samoa and regional partners to address climate challenges.
